My walks take me here more than anywhere, especially now. What an experiment we were given! Not one of asked to live in a democracy, but here we are. Birthed into this world, millions of cells and infinite combinations became us in America 2020. Through our history we have struggled—grappled our ideas of fairness, freedom, compromise, truth, and consequence yet only offered conciliatory recognition of faults but never a reckoning with the past. Our founding fathers experienced this and predicted we would do the same. Little did they know our biggest reckoning would be at the turn of the new millennia, a future unrecognizable.
We sit in a space where technology has raced passed our brains. Human transition of thoughts and ideas, “progress”, usually comes at incremental paces, not in an acceleration of time and compound thought. I believe we humans are struggling. I believe our country is aching. I believe we are having trouble processing the endless bombardment of cultural change, plague, and a world leadership void, all delivered to us in a computer we keep in our hand. A tool to stroke our fears.
We seem unsure if we should just succumb to the illness. It’s easy....we can lull ourselves to sleep.
Our inevitable death. A country unrecognizable.
Or we can fight it.
How do we do that?
We do it by talking. We do it by educating ourselves on the truth of our papers—our constitution, our declaration, our thought leaders who has earnestly worked towards more fairness, more freedom, more compromise, more truth, and instead of conciliatory recognition, a promise to come to the table with intellectual honesty to talk through our continuing compromise that offers us each our freedom while also recognizing promise of true equality to ALL humans regardless of the infinite combination of cells that made you the special human that you are!
